Community Highlight: 13-Year-Old Chaz Celebrates His Birthday by Giving Back

At just 13 years old, Charlie “Chaz” proves you’re never too young to make a difference. In 2025, for the fourth year in a row, Chaz organized a 5K event to celebrate his birthday, raising critical funds for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF). Despite facing his own personal challenges that year, Chaz’s determination to help kids with brain tumors never wavered.

Chaz’s annual 5K has become a family and community tradition, bringing together friends, family, and supporters to run, walk, and raise awareness for pediatric brain tumors. At his 2025 event, Chaz raised an impressive $3,000 for PBTF and an additional $1,000 for neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) awareness, a cause close to his heart as a family member battles the disease.

“Chaz has always had a big heart and a passion for helping others,” said his mother. “Even when he faced his own health challenges this year, he never considered canceling the 5K. He’s an inspiration to all of us.”

In the weeks leading up to the event, Chaz faced a herniated disc that caused significant pain and leg weakness, requiring a midnight MRI and extensive physical therapy. Yet, he remained steadfast in his mission, walking the 5K alongside friends while others ran. His resilience and commitment to helping others are a testament to his character.

But Chaz’s efforts didn’t stop with the 5K. In November 2025, he joined PBTF and the Boston Celtics for the “Move4Heather” event, rallying friends to help with a 50/50 auction. During that holiday season, Chaz also hosted a grocery gift card drive to support families in need, offering special gift bags filled with holiday fudge and treats from local bakers and sponsors to donors. He made it his goal to continue monthly charitable acts in his community, alongside the ‘Chaz Bus Crew’ that are with him every step of the way.

“The holidays are a time for giving, and I want to spread joy by helping others,” said Chaz in his solicitation letter. “Every donation fuels hope for families facing tough times.”

Chaz’s story is one of resilience, generosity, and community spirit. His efforts have not only raised critical funds for PBTF but have also inspired others to get involved and make a difference. As he continues to find new ways to give back, Chaz is a shining example of how one person—no matter their age—can create a ripple effect of kindness and hope.
