Leading a New Era of Research
Data as the Connective Tissue
At the center of our new strategy is a fundamental belief: every project we support today should accelerate what becomes possible tomorrow.
Advances in data and technology now allow each research investment to build on what came before in ways never before possible, helping researchers leverage existing knowledge, save critical time and resources, and multiply the impact of every PBTF investment.
PBTF’s new research strategy is designed not just to respond to this moment, but to shape it.
PBTF’s research strategy mandates that researchers use existing data whenever available and requires that data generated through PBTF-funded research be made accessible to the broader scientific community. By embedding these requirements into how we fund research, we’re creating the conditions for progress to happen faster, more collaboratively, and more equitably across every pediatric brain tumor diagnosis, maximizing the impact of every community investment.
That’s why data generated through PBTF-funded research must be:
- research-ready
- accessible
- reusable by the broader scientific community
This allows research to be accelerated rather than duplicated or siloed.

Data sharing sounds simple but making it work in practice is hard — plenty of organizations have tried and struggled to pull it off. What PBTF is doing with this new research strategy is different: by requiring data sharing as part of every grant it funds, PBTF is turning each research dollar into something that benefits far more than a single study. That's what a real force multiplier looks like, and it's how we move the field — and get treatments to kids — faster.— Adam Resnick, PhD, Technical Advisory Network Lead, PBTF
Pediatric brain tumor patients, their families, and doctors depend on the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation to make sure progress towards a cure doesn't stop. But while the need for childhood brain cancer research grows, funding isn't keeping up. Help us close the research funding gap. Donate or start a fundraiser today.
